Common Drywall Issues and Fixes
Here are a few drywall repair service tips on how to fix common drywall issues that you will eventually come across in your home.
Repairing Popped Nails
Fasten a coarse-thread drywall screw just above and below the popped nail. Make sure you fasten the screw to the point where it is just below the surface of the drywall paper, so it does not puncture the paper surface. Then apply the first coat of joint compound or spackle.
-
Apply a second coat once the first has dried making sure to feather the edges.
-
Wait until the compound is dry, and then lightly sand using a sanding block with 200 grit sandpaper. Do not sand just using your hand or fingers! You need to have a solid backing to the sandpaper in order to get the best results!
-
Once the repair is dry and sanded, you can prime and paint.
Repairing Dents in Drywall
Dents in drywall are common, and as it turns out, pretty easy to repair.
-
Use a 4 to 6-inch flat blade taping knife, it does not have to be expensive, to apply spackle or a premixed drywall joint compound onto the dented area.
-
Wait until the compound is dry, and then lightly sand using a sanding block and around 200 grit sandpaper. As with above, do not sand using your hand or fingers, use a solid backing to the sandpaper if you want to receive the best results!
-
Once dry, inspect the repair. If the compound shrunk or you notice any pitting, repeat the application of joint compound and sanding when necessary.
-
Once the repair is dry and sanded smooth you can go ahead and prime and paint.
